You can hear the thrum, thrum, thrum blocks away.  As the sun is setting behind the mountains, the crowd meanders along the streets towards the noise.  The closer you get, you begin to feel a cataclysm of noise vibrating in your chest.  And then, there you see it. The drum circle.

A crowd has formed, containing a swirling sea of colors, sites and sounds.  Many are visitors drawn to the gathering.  Others, you will see there every week.  Those dedicated bring their own drums.  As soon as they arrive, they join in.  The beat is constantly growing and shrinking, getting faster, than slowing down, as if it has a life of its own.

The crowd waxes and wanes throughout the night.  Many dance, jump, skip and twirl.  Happy faces abound.  Some, high on life, others high on whatever.  All are enthralled with the energy in this small area of town.  The Asheville Drum Circle.  My home away from home.

Joyful Chaos

  • Product Details:

This creation invoked so much joy for me.  I love the pop of the colors and look of movement in this piece.  The name and story of the piece came to me within this joy. Whenever I go to the drum circle, it amazes me how so many strangers come together and find joy in the simplicity of drumming together.
