He scratches his head as he looks at the map. This has to be it, he thinks. Dad said the island is guarded by the veiled mountains to the northeast and the great chasm to the west.
He always thought “veiled” mountains meant snow covered. Thirteen years later, he realizes maybe he meant clouded in mist. Who knows for sure the words of a dying man?
He promised his father he would find it. So many islands explored. So many disappointments. This time feels differently. I will finish what you started dad.
Acrylic paints on stretched canvas. Fully finished with high gloss varnish to protect the painting. The painting is 24 inches tall by 36 inches wide and 1 inch deep.
Plaster is used under the paint to create an interesting texture on the canvas.
I love the texture on this piece. As soon as I finished, I knew it looked topographical. However, it had a weathered look and I thought of an old treasure map. Then the story came to me of a son desparate to please his father and searching for the right clues from the map.
